Terms of Service

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of an open_inventory storefront — including browsing the catalog, creating an account, placing orders, and any related coordination over Signal. By using the site, you agree to be bound by them. If you don't agree, don't use the site.

open_inventory is a privacy-first commerce platform. Each storefront is operated by an independent merchant (the "store operator"). These terms describe the relationship between you and the store operator.

2. Accounts and access

You may interact with a storefront in one of three ways, depending on how the store operator has configured their site:

  • Account holder — you provide a Signal username and the current monthly access password, and the system issues you a unique account number. That number is the only credential needed to log back in. Keep it safe.
  • Guest checkout— when enabled, you can place an order with no identifying information at all. Your guest order data is automatically deleted on the store operator's configured retention schedule (typically 30 days).
  • Private URL access — some stores require a private access link to reach the catalog. The link is shared with you by the store operator and may be rotated periodically. If your link stops working, request a new one through the same channel.

You are responsible for keeping your account number, access link, and any monthly passwords confidential. Sharing access credentials is grounds for the store operator to terminate your access.

3. Orders and acceptance

Placing an order is an offer to buy. The order is confirmed only when:

  • The store operator acknowledges it (for Signal- or wire-coordinated payments), or
  • Stripe authorizes the charge (for card payments), or
  • The cryptocurrency transaction reaches the required on-chain confirmation depth (for crypto payments).

Prices are displayed in USD and may change without notice up until the moment you place an order. After you order, the price is locked. For cryptocurrency payments, the USD-to-crypto exchange rate is locked at the time of order; the customer is responsible for sending the correct amount.

The store operator reserves the right to refuse or cancel any order at their discretion, including for inventory issues, suspected fraud, or policy violations.

4. Payment methods

The following payment methods may be available, depending on store configuration:

  • Signal coordination — payment is arranged off-platform. The store operator will message you on Signal to settle the details. Nothing about the payment is stored in the order record.
  • Wire transfer — wire instructions are sent through Signal after you place the order.
  • Credit card— processed by Stripe, Inc. Card details never touch the store's server; they go directly from your browser to Stripe. The store retains only a Stripe payment intent ID for reconciliation.
  • Cryptocurrency — self-custody payments via Bitcoin, Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Monero, or Zcash. EVM payments are sent through your wallet (e.g. MetaMask) and verified on-chain. Bitcoin, Monero, and Zcash payments are sent by scanning a QR code or copying the receiving address into your own wallet, then confirmed off-chain by the store operator. Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible — verify the destination address and amount before sending.

5. Promo codes

Promo codes are subject to the terms attached to each code: expiry dates, minimum order amounts, usage limits, and product restrictions. Codes are validated at checkout and cannot be applied retroactively. Stacking multiple codes is not supported unless the store operator explicitly allows it.

6. Delivery and fulfillment

Delivery method, timing, and shipping costs are coordinated directly through Signal after your order is placed. The store may not collect a shipping address up front for privacy reasons; in that case, you and the store operator will agree on delivery details over Signal.

For digital goods or off-platform fulfillment, follow the instructions provided in your post-order Signal conversation.

7. Returns and refunds

All sales are final. We do not accept returns, exchanges, or issue refunds under normal circumstances. Cryptocurrency payments are irreversible by their nature and cannot be refunded through the blockchain regardless of any other policy.

Limited exceptions. If your order arrives damaged, defective, or is significantly not as described, contact the store operator over Signal within 48 hours of receipt with your order number and photos. These cases are handled individually at the store operator's discretion. There is no automated refund flow — every exception is a conversation.

8. Privacy and data

We take privacy seriously — it's the entire reason this platform exists. See our Privacy Policyfor full details on what is collected, how long it's kept, and your rights to view, export, or delete your data.

9. Acceptable use

You may not:

  • Scrape, mirror, or systematically harvest the catalog or any other content
  • Submit fraudulent orders, fraudulent payments, or stolen card information
  • Exploit promo codes outside their stated terms
  • Share your account number, access link, or monthly passwords with third parties
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, access controls, or the private URL gate
  • Use the storefront to sell or distribute anything illegal in your jurisdiction
  • Interfere with the operation of the site, the merchant, or other customers

The store operator may cancel orders, terminate accounts, and revoke access at any time for abuse.

10. Cryptocurrency risks

Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible by their nature. Once a payment is broadcast, it cannot be cancelled, recalled, or chargeback-disputed. You bear the risk of:

  • Sending to the wrong address (funds are unrecoverable)
  • Sending the wrong amount (overpayments and underpayments are settled at the store operator's discretion)
  • Network congestion or fee miscalculation causing delayed confirmation
  • Price volatility between the moment you receive a quote and the moment your transaction confirms — the rate is locked at order time, but on-chain confirmation can take minutes to hours

For privacy coins (Monero, shielded Zcash), the store operator confirms payments off-chain by reviewing their wallet directly. Allow extra time for fulfillment.

11. Third-party services

The site relies on a small number of third-party services. By using it you also accept their terms:

  • Stripe — for credit card processing (only when you choose card payment)
  • Supabase — for database and image hosting
  • Vercel — for site hosting
  • CoinGecko — for cryptocurrency price data (no personal data is sent)

The store operator may have configured additional integrations (e.g. accounting sync). Those operate strictly on order data and do not receive customer-identifying information beyond what is needed for the receipt.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither open_inventory nor the store operator are liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site or the products you purchase.

The store operator's total liability for any direct claim is capped at the amount you paid for the specific order in question.

Cryptocurrency transactions, by their nature, fall entirely on the sender. Once you broadcast a transaction, neither open_inventory nor the store operator can recover, refund, or reverse it.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the store operator and open_inventory from any claims arising out of your violation of these terms, your misuse of the site, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

14. Termination

You may stop using the site at any time. The store operator may terminate or suspend your access at any time for any reason, including violation of these terms. On termination, your account record may be retained for accounting purposes (stripped of identifying details) per the store's retention policy.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the store operator is established. If you are unsure where that is, ask the store operator over Signal before placing an order.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

17. Contact

For questions about these terms or any order, reach out to the store operator through the Signal channel they provided. There is intentionally no support email — Signal is the channel.
